Andrei Karlov died of his injuries after being shot five times in the back while giving a speech at an art gallery in Ankara.He will posthumously receive a state honour, Mr Putin confirmed, as he died at his post.

The gunman was killed by police after assassinating the Russian ambassador
The gunman was identified as a 22-year-old policeman. He opened fire several minutes into Mr Karlov's speech before turning the gun on members of the crowd.He shouted "Allahu Akbar" and ranted about Aleppo and Syria.This is an ongoing story. More to follow...
