Dear Michael Moore, Stop Blaming Whites for Black Gun Crime – An Open Letter to the Hypocrite of the Year
We are big fans of Australia’s ManTalk Magazine-a hot new site where conservative minded alpha-males like myself, head to get news and a bit of advice on what other honourable gentlemen are interested in. It’s GQ for actual gentleman. If you have yet to discover their site, I’d advise you all to check it out. Keep up the great work guys.
Written by Trevor H. Johannes,
Dear Michael Moore,
I remember watching a satirical short film you made about white South Africans where you compared the days of apartheid to modern day America. I’m a white South African so according to you, I don’t have the right to be offended, just as I don’t have the right to earn a living, or the right to peace, safety and security in my home, business or behind the wheel of my car. Blacks born in the post Apartheid era have benefitted directly from an ANC controlled system so by saying that their lack of progress is somehow the fault of the white minority in South Africa, is simply not plausible.
Today my open letter is not about your treasonous and sensationalist lies about South Africa but a response to your failure in telling the story of black gun crime in the United States. On the 25th of May, 2014, you wrote on your Facebook about the Isla Vista shooting and said “Nearly all of our mass shootings are by angry or disturbed white males”.
The Isla Vista shooter, Elliot Rodger was half Asian although this has little to do with my argument. Liberals like yourself say race does not play a significant role in crime, yet you encourage a one-sided race baiting argument by blaming “angry or disturbed white males”.
Even after accepting the statistical evidence demonstrating black propensity towards crime, liberals still have a habit of placing blame on slavery, white privilege, societal racism and poverty. Firstly, black Americans are the wealthiest blacks on the planet from Oprah to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, blacks reign significant wealth and power all over the world. Secondly, if it comes down to the socio-economic conditions that exist alone in the U.S. why are blacks over presented in heinous crimes that are not attributed to poverty such as violent rape in South Africa, Sweden, Britain and the United States?
In a time where families tragically lost their loved ones, you disingenuously used the event for your own political gain. By suggesting that race plays a major card in gun violence in America, then I must clarify a number of points you ‘missed’ including gun laws and which race topples gun violence in the land of the free.
Included in your statement you said “We are a people easily manipulated by fear which causes us to arm ourselves with a quarter BILLION guns in our homes that are often easily accessible to young people, burglars, the mentally ill and anyone who momentarily snaps.”
According to research by Eric Dietz, who was the former director of Homeland Security for the state of Indiana and a 22-year Army veteran, since the 1950s, all but two mass shootings have occurred in locations where victims were restricted from carrying weapons for self-defence. This questions the effectiveness of gun free zones where criminals are supposed to be deterred from committing violent crimes because a mere sign says so.
If registered firearm owners were the cause of the 111,289 homicides by firearms between 2000 and 2010, then you would have a strong argument to propose tougher gun laws.
Data demonstrates that between those years the majority of registered firearm owners were using their firearms for good use, hence why they do not make any significant impact in gun crime data.
If gun control does not work in cities that have some of the strictest gun laws in the country, it will not work anywhere. States where gun laws are the strictest continue to have an exceedingly higher rate of gun crime from unregistered firearm owners.
In a previous arricle written on Mantalk entitled Guns Save Lives in the U.S.A noted that for over twenty years it has been illegal for teens to buy guns and despite such gun control, the African-American teenage male homicide rate in Washington, DC is 227 per 100,000 – 20 times the U.S. average. Middle-aged white men, a group for whom legal gun ownership has the highest prevalence, has a homicide rate of less than 7 per 100,000 – about half of the U.S. average.
The 111,289 homicides by firearm between 2000 and 2010 were carried out mostly by blacks, not “angry or disturbed white males”. Considering blacks make up only 12% of the U.S. population, blacks are clearly overrepresented in crime in comparison to the 63% of white Americans, for whom you have labelled as “angry or disturbed white males”
Of those 111,289 homicides, a staggering 50,253 were committed by Blacks alone.
Followed by 38,826 (unknown race) 27,088 (white-non Hispanic) and 10,356 (Hispanic).
Blacks not only killed more than Whites, but Blacks killed more than Whites, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indians, combined (50,253 vs. 39,122) over the entire course of data.
For arguments sake, if we were to combine the ‘Unknown’ racial group figure of 38,826 homicides committed, and say that they were White criminals, and we add that number to Whites committing homicides by firearm, the figure reaches 65,914 homicides that could have been committed by Whites, but they weren’t.
These figures directly challenge every gun law proposed which target responsible gun owners yet is left out from the public arena.
I imagine it would be quite difficult for a White male like yourself to push for tough gun legislation in high-crime, Black neighborhoods, without your private security forces who carry firearms for your protection.
You do not advocate for gun laws in Black neighborhoods because you will be shot by unregistered firearm owners, that have evaded the very laws you propose. The only thing your gun laws do is denying liberty to good Americans, as career criminals in these areas entirely depend on the illegal trade and violent use of firearms. By forbidding honest citizens the right to protect themselves with a firearm actually decreases their chance of survival.
In 2013, a $10 million report by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that was commissioned by President Barack Obama stated that “Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies,”. The CDC also found that “Most felons report obtaining the majority of their firearms from informal sources,” while “stolen guns account for only a small percentage of guns used by convicted criminals.”
Registration and licensing have no effect on preventing crime as criminals by definition do not obey laws. A national survey of prisoners conducted by Wright and Rossi for the Department of Justice found that 82% agreed that “gun laws only affect law-abiding citizens; criminals will always be able to get guns.”
A study conducted in 1995 called Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense with a Gun by Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz found that there was at least 2.5 million protective uses of guns every year in the United States of America.
Instead of resorting to real data, you create fear-mongering campaigns and blame the absence of strict, nationwide measures for the failures of the knee-jerk laws created in hysteria after every mass-shooting. You and other anti-gun opponents ignore that fact that innocent lives could have been saved if just one law abiding citizen possessed a concealed firearm at a time where only the bad guy had a gun.
While you are protected by the very firearms you wish to remove from society, I am baffled that your anti-gun proposals are based on the absolute disarmament of all citizens owning or carrying weapons. I pray for the day you are faced by an unregistered firearm owner and hope that a concealed carry permit holder comes to your rescue.
Because we both know, gun laws won’t.
